Proactive and reactive communication
I’m Bridget Aherne, an independent public relations and communications professional and MD of Bridget Aherne Communications. Prior to working as an independent practitioner and interim Head of PR and Comms, I worked in-house so I come with a track-record of helping orgnisations be their best and reaching the right people with a message that makes an impact.
My experience spans crisis communications and protecting reputations for a number of well-known names as well as long-term reputation and brand-building, and producing engaging day-to-day campaigns and communications activities. I’ve always remained very hands on so, in one day, you could find me advising the board in the morning and creating content on social media in the afternoon.
I was Head of Comms at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and, for my work there, won the title of PR Director of the Year in 2015, awarded by the Chartered Institue of Public Relations (CIPR) and Institute of Directors (IoD).
Before that I worked in the fabulous Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service comms team, have worked in comms roles in another public sector organisation and was a newspaper reporter and radio presenter before that. I’m enthusiastic about the role communications, public relations and marketing has in supporting frontline colleagues to deliver services, improve communities and keep people safe.
